The King’s Favour Sauvignon Blanc

Background information

Brent Marris, Marlborough born and raised, spent years as a youngster exploring the landscape of his home region. He put that exploration to good use when, in 2003, he started his search for a vineyard property. The site he chose was 268ha of vineyards on the banks of the Waihopai River, on the southern side of the Wairau Valley. The De Marisco’s descended from William de Marisco who was said to be on of 35 illigitimate children of King Henry the First. Brent created this range in homage to his royal ancestors.

Tasting note

An attractive and intriguing bouquet of citrus blossom, lime and classic Waihopai wet river stone minerality. Hints of fresh herb, fennel and musk add complexity and interest. A precise yet rich palate, with flavours of ripe citrus, elderflower and sweet herb. This wine has texture, minerality, and juicy acidity giving length and structure.

Food match

Delicious served alongside trout baked with fennel and lime.
