Bolgrad Winery
Bolgrad winery are the No 1 winery producing still wines in the Ukraine (18% of total Still wine production).
In the 1950s, Ukraine imported and planted French grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Aligoté and Sauvignon Blanc. The Tayirov and Magarach institutes conducted experiments in crossbreeding grape varieties to adapt them to the local climate, resulting in the successful cultivation of varieties like Odesa Black, Rkatsiteli, Sukholiman, Fetyaska and Lianka.
Based in South Odessa region, a favourable and sunny climate ensures ripeness in the grapes. The vineyard location benefits from two opposing air masses coming from the fresh water Yalpug lake and the saline Black Sea. Strict vineyard controls and modern winemaking equipment ensure premium quality wines with intense fruity bouquets.
